About Dark Waters

A forum and space to share cross-genre dark fiction and promote discussion among writers and editors. We're here to show that dark stories have a place in dark times. To submit your writing for the show, email us at darkwaterspodcast@gmail.com.

Submissions for Dark Waters Vol. 3 are open June 15-August 1!

Word limit ~7,000

Prompt: Whatever "dark waters" means to you - stories of trepidation, the unknown, the dangerous, the creepy, the suspenseful. Crime, horror, and noir genres preferred. All stories are welcome, but we are not particularly interested in high fantasy, cosmic horror, romance without crime/horror/noir serving as the main element, or historical pre-1940s (or thereabouts).

Past contributors are welcome to submit, but preference will be given to new authors.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome, but please let us know ASAP if you have been accepted elsewhere.

What we're not looking for:

Just a body in the water story, unless you think you have a really cool concept. Water can be incorporated, but we encourage you to think more metaphorically, rather than literal water.

Stories that contain language that seeks to perpetuate negative racial, gender, and/or LGBTQ+ stereotypes will not be accepted. Stories addressing these issues are acceptable, but those seeking to portray individuals in a negative and/or derogatory sense for no other reason than their race, gender, or sexual orientation are not welcome in this anthology.

Stories written with the use of AI will not be accepted.

Please do not send reprints at this time.
